This Friday, 13 May, the 80th edition of the Pfingstturnier in Wiesbaden will begin at the beautiful Biebrich Schlosspark. The traditional event will host the World Dressage Masters (WDM) for the first time this year. WDM Wiesbaden features a top line-up with world-class ladies of dressage such as Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein from Denmark, Italy’s Valentina Truppa and of course Germany’s dressage queen Isabell Werth. Isabell confirmed that she will compete in the WDM Grand Prix Special with her Olympic hope Weihegold.
The Wiesbaden Pfingstturnier, which was held for the first time in 1929, has grown into one of Germany’s largest events and offers 620,300 euros in prizemoney. The first edition was held at the sports complex ‘Kleinfeldchen’ and it was an instant success which made it necessary to move to a larger complex the next year. In 1932 the show moved to a facility specially built for the show in cooperation with the city. The Pfingstturnier was organized there until 1939. Under the guidance of Wilhelm und Veronika Dyckerhoff the event had a restart in 1949 in the Bieberich Schlosspark and in 1952 a new show ground was constructed. In the years after the tournament welcomed many big names such as Dr. Josef Neckermann, Hans Gùnter Winkler, Fritz Thiedemann and Dr. Reiner Klimke. Over the years the Pfingstturnier in Wiesbaden developed into the great event it is today. WDM is looking forward to be part of it.
